Internally known as "Lunchbox," their mission was to explore how an autonomous robot could seamlessly navigate the entire delivery process, specifically for takeaway food.
To truly understand the challenges, LeapX immersed into the world of delivery drivers and studied the current solutions available. This led them to a key realisation – the need to balance the requirements of both indoor and outdoor delivery scenarios. Inspired by the agility and stability of delivery drivers, LeapX set out to design a robot that could seamlessly transition between different environments. From traversing the city streets to navigating tight indoor spaces, their goal was to create a versatile solution that could cover the entire journey from merchant to customer.
They also imagined the future of distribution networks, envisioning how robots of various sizes could collaborate to cover long distances. LeapX even explored the idea of charging stations doubling as pickup locations for deliveries. The result is the robot Citizen – reflecting not only LeapX' vision for the future of unmanned delivery, but also a solution that is feasible within today's infrastructure.
