'5+1' with Jenny Keisu – CEO of X Shore

There is a growing demand for electric boats, particularly in the recreational and small commercial markets driven by concerns about the environmental impact of traditional gasoline-powered boats and the increasing fuel prices.

X Shore is one of the players on the market that is changing the boating industry for sure. The Swedish climate tech company designs 100% electric boats to create a fossil free tomorrow. They are combining Swedish maritime craftsmanship with technology, innovation and sustainability.

We are very happy to have Jenny Keisu on board for our interview series ‘5+1’. She is the driving force – the CEO behind the high-end electric boat company X Shore. In our interview you now get a deeper insight into the brand’s mission and where the strategic direction is heading to, Jenny’s motivation and drive, the status of e-mobility in her private life, the mobility offer in her home of choice Stockholm and her view on the future of urban mobility.

1. You are CEO of the Swedish electric boat company X Shore. What’s the mission of the brand and where is the strategic direction heading?

One of our primary missions for X Shore is to move the entire boating sector closer to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As we are the front-runners, we are able to push the more traditional boat manufacturers to be more sustainable. If we succeed, in just a few years it will only be electric boats that are sold.

2. With X Shore you are driving the future of electric boating forward. What is it that drives you?

To be motivated, I need to be a part of a movement for positive change. Every time I hear the noise from a combustion engine and see the smoke from the boats and cars I can’t help but feel bad for my own contribution to that pollution, and that’s why I can talk forever about electric boating. I also have boating and archipelago life as a part of my DNA, so this is probably the perfect job for me.

3. E-mobility is at the core of X Shore. What is the status of e-mobility in your private life?

I’m not driving an X Shore boat yet myself, but I hope to soon! We have had a huge surge in demand and as CEO I’m last in line to get my boat delivered. Usually, I go with public transportation or take a VOI to get about in Stockholm.

4. You live and work in Stockholm. Are you satisfied with the mobility offer in the city and how do you get from A to B?

Yes! Stockholm, has a great public transportation system with buses, trams, VOI, underground and ferries. What’s also really encouraging to see is the increasing amounts of electric car charging points appearing across the city too.

5. Let’s talk about the future of mobility. What might the urban mobility of tomorrow look like? How will we move along?

Electric vehicles have come a long way in the last few years. Although there is still much work to do in terms of making personal electric cars more affordable and accessible for everybody, I think we are reaching a point where more and more people are actively seeking out greener methods of urban travel. With cities across Europe increasingly benefiting from E-scooters, hybrid and electric buses, and rapidly growing cycle routes, hopefully we are soon reaching a tipping point where cities can become fossil-fuel free, much like how Stockholm is planning to by 2040 and Amsterdam 2025.

And the +1 question from Jenny to you:

”What will you do this summer to smarter in your transportation?”

Thanks Jenny for being part of our ‘5+1’ interview. We will follow X Shore with great interest and of course report back here.
