Volvo just announced that by 2030 all new Volvo cars will be fully electric. In the course of this they presented the new Volvo C40 Recharge, the second fully electric car in their portfolio. Already in four years, so by 2025, Volvo’s goal is that every second Volvo model sold worldwide will be purely electric with hybrids making up the rest.
With the XC40 Recharge that we lately tested and presented, being the first pure electric model, Volvo moves forward on its path to a zero emission future with the C40 Recharge. This model is also the first one in Volvo’s history being designed as a pure electric vehicle only.

Even if the C40 Recharge has a lower and sleeker design, SUV fans don't miss out on the C40 Recharge. While the rear design is quite distinctive with its taillights harmonising the lower roofline, the front introduces a new face for all electric models including headlights with advanced pixel-technology.

Inside the C40, the driver doesn’t have to renounce on the high-seating position. Model-specific colour and trim elements provide scope for individualisation. No leather will be used for the C40. So it is also Volvo’s first model being completely leather-free. A great step towards a sustainable future.

The XC40 Recharge was the first model featuring the new Android infotainment system, jointly developed by Google. And so does the C40. You can make use of functions such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, third-party apps and services.

The propulsion of the C40 consists of two electric motors – one on the front and one on the rear axle, powered by a 78 kWh battery that can be charged to 80 percent within 40 minutes at fast-charging stations. The range of the C40 will be around 420 kilometres (WLTP) and according to Volvo it is expected to improve over time via over-the-air software updates.

With the increasing electrification, Volvo is also shifting its direct sales to online sales. Hence, Volvo announced that the C40 will only be available for sales online.

Production of the C40 Recharge will start this fall and be built alongside the XC40 Recharge at the manufacturing plant in Ghent, Belgium.
