Lexus collaborates with designer Marjan van Aubel for an interactive installation inspired by carbon-neutral energy and Lexus concept car
Lexus has revealed a captivating solar sculpture titled "8 Minutes and 20 Seconds" at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami). This installation, created by Dutch solar designer Marjan van Aubel, showcases the Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst (LF-ZC) concept car through the use of solar cells, bringing it to life with light and colour.
“It’s been a joy to bring the LF-ZC concept car to life! Lexus’s ethos towards innovation, craftsmanship, and new material use resonates with my design practice. This installation invites people to interact with light and color and engages them to imagine a more sustainable, positive future. Through this partnership, I could tell a new narrative of generating energy beautifully.” – Marjan van Aubel
As viewers move around the sculpture, motion sensors trigger mesmerising light displays accompanied by a musical composition, echoing the dynamics of the car in motion. The sculpture harnesses solar power throughout the day, storing energy in discreetly placed batteries to sustain its captivating features. With a unique blend of string instruments, soft piano, and environmental sounds, the ambient melody adds to the immersive experience. This installation, on view until December 17th, represents Lexus' ongoing collaboration with ICA Miami and their commitment to showcasing art and design during Miami Art & Design Week.
