RIMOWA x Porsche Hand-Carry Case Pepita – a gem of function and form

Legendary companies Porsche and RIMOWA have released a limited-edition collaboration: the Hand-Carry Case Pepita. This exclusive Porsche 911-inspired suitcase reflects both of the brands’ commitment to technical innovation, high performance and functional yet beautiful design. 

The collaboration should really come as no surprise, as the two brands have much in common, starting with shared values and heritage in their commitment to excellence in both design and performance. Both have been leaders and innovators in their respective industries, and clearly – as you can see in the beautiful images showcasing the collaboration – have shared vision when it comes to design. 

The launch of the RIMOWA x Porsche Hand-Carry Case Pepita is a true gift for fans of both companies: a collector’s case inspired by one of the greatest sports cars of all time, the Porsche 911.

The Pepita case’s trademark exterior 

The inspiration for the case was the original first generation Porsche 911, known as the 901. The case’s high-gloss handle, locks and strap holders are inspired by the 911’s shiny door mirrors, door handles and hub caps. The leather straps that decorate the shell of the case are also memorable details that pay homage to the leather straps that were used to secure the hoods of sports cars to the bodywork back in the day. Securing the straps are also polished holders in the shape of the Porsche crest – it’s all in the small details. 

A full-sized gold-plated Porsche crest is also on the outer shell of the case – the same as the ones on Porsche heritage models – embedded in a metal frame protecting it from scratches. The crest sits amid the infamous and trademark RIMOWA grooves introduced in 1950.

The Porsche 911 tribute interior 

When opening the anodised aluminium lid of the 30-litre capacity case, the classic Porsche 911 themes are unmistakable, starting with the interior fabric detail recreating the black and white checks of the Pepita cloth that laid on the seats of the 911 for its first decade on the market. Next is the clear nod to the yellow Porsche 911 engine compartment labels on the case’s locking instruction label, hidden within the suitcase lining. Last but not least is the bespoke palladium buckle especially designed for the collaboration and inspired by the seatbelts of Porsche sports cars. 

Porsche & RIMOWA’s famous functionality 

Both Porsche and RIMOWA have been known for many decades to marry function and form in their meticulous design work, and the Hand-Carry Case Pepita is no different. The suitcase is designed to fit perfectly in the trunk or at the front of all Porsche 911 sports cars of the water-cooled engine era (models 996, 997 F and 992) and on the backseat for classic Porsche 911 owners. The wheel-free design of the case was created specifically with in-car storage in mind, as well as the lack of a telescopic handle, both optimising packing capacity and acting as an added benefit when used as a carry-on. 

The RIMOWA x Porsche Hand-Carry Case Pepita is a limited edition release, with only 911 cases being manufactured.
