Unveiling the signature sounds of the new all-electric MINI family

Silence is typically the first thing that comes to mind when we consider electric cars. Nevertheless, all electric vehicles are mandated to have sound due to safety requirements and a 2017 EU regulation. This brings forth an entirely new opportunity for automotive companies, allowing them to establish their brands through sound design in the e-mobility world. Crafting acoustic environments can make the experience of sustainable transportation even more powerful, engaging, and distinctive. And so does MINI. For them sound experience is an essential part of driving electrically. An array of audio features enhance the sensation and are included in the latest MINI Cooper Electric for the first time.

The all-electric MINI models are equipped with sound worlds that are unique to the brand, making for an even more complete driving experience. Drivers will be treated to completely new sounds within the cabin as well as an unmistakable sound on the exterior to properly identify it as a MINI. What's more, jingles have been created for their new Experience Modes and sound icons accompany informational and warning functions.

MINI introduces the new MINI Sound DNA, a revolutionary experience that combines analog instruments, digital technology, and artificial intelligence to create unique driving sounds. With four distinct Experience Modes “Core”, “Go Kart”, “Timeless” and “Balance”, each curated to deliver an immersive driving experience, MINI captivates drivers with its charismatic aura.

The "Core" mode, heard both inside and outside the vehicle, serves as the default driving sound, radiating warmth and energy. The "Go Kart" mode enhances the sporty driving experience with pronounced pitch and load curves, while the "Timeless" mode blends tradition and innovation, taking drivers on an acoustic journey through time. Lastly, the "Balance" mode transports drivers to a soundscape inspired by the calming ambiance of a forest. Experience the future of driving sound with MINI.

In addition the future MINI family introduces characteristic jingles and striking earcons as part of its completely new sound experience. These sounds, such as activation jingles and earcons for various events and information, create a distinctive and brand-typical atmosphere. With around 30 newly designed sound signals, MINI ensures that occupants are engaged, alerted, and immersed in the driving experience. From turn indicators to seat-belt warnings and Park Distance Control, these audible icons effectively communicate important messages while adding a touch of creativity to the overall driving ambiance.
