BMW unveils exclusive iX1 created by Marc Brandenburg
To celebrate a new long-term alliance, the BMW Group has been launching an exclusive project with the Staedel Museum in Frankfurt, one of Germany's most renowned and oldest art foundations. Artist Marc Brandenburg was chosen to design the BMW iX1 for this occasion.
Marc Brandenburg has been residing and producing work in Berlin since 1965. He was born there, but he traveled to the US with his family from 1968 to 1977 before returning to West Berlin. In the 1980s, he encountered the Berlin club scene early on, working as a bouncer. At the end of the decade, Marc devoted himself to fashion and its design after teaching himself each discipline. By the late 90s, he had shifted his focus to fine art. Drawing is a chief component of his artistic creation.
Marc Brandenburg now turns the electric BMW iX1 into an object of contemporary art and artistically embodies aspects of time, space, and speed in his design. He his known for his art choosing motifs from the immediate surroundings by taking photographs or using pictures from magazines, alienating them technically and indulging in drawing. Some of these drawings have been included in the design of the BMW iX1. One on side door for example, you see a drawing of the artist himself being walking through the Tiergarten in Berlin.
“We are excited to be expanding our cultural engagement through a new partnership with the Städel Museum – one of Germany’s most significant art museums. The BMW iX1 design created by Marc Brandenburg is the perfect kick-off for a new long-term collaboration that will generate many more inspiring encounters with artists via the STÄDEL INVITES format.” – Ilka Horstmeier, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Human Resources and Real Estate
